“Vitality shows in not only the ability to persist but the ability to Start Over”
F. Scott Fitzgerald
During the Detox Dead Sea I often hear people complain that they try to change something in their lives and fail over and over again. Today, as the Jewish New Year approaches and the Autumn Equinox follows; it is time for house cleaning.
There are wonderful things in our lives which we want to continue and revise and there are things that we would like to change. It might be an emotional behavior pattern or relationships with others.
If you really want to change your life but keep failing time after time you must practice this ultimate Mantra: Start Over.
This practice will create a true transformation.
Why do decisions fail?
We decide to make a change and then something happens that knocks down our intentions. The undesirable behavior pattern takes over again with all its might and we are lost in our negative thoughts and anxieties. When you are beaten away from your path – don’t react! When you find out that you lost your way – just Start Over. Don’t get into emotional dramas. Don’t judge yourself or indulge yourself in self pity. Start Over.
Start Over and deviate your attention from your limitations to your strengths. Sometimes it’s essential to be compassionate with ourselves so we are able to contain our emotions and still stay in the present moment and focus on our Mantra – Start Over
If you really want to change your life – but keep failing time after time – you should follow these principles:
- Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t change
- Confront your negative views with determination
- Don’t let your inner voice tell you that you have no chance to control your life
- When you discover that you got lost and you are far away from one of these principles – Start Over
Practice, practice, practice:
Motivation: in order to motivate yourself to practice Start Over, observe what happens when you waste your time despairing, being depressed, suppressing or obsessing about your negative thoughts. You are completely out of balance.
Don’t judge yourself; be compassionate and loving with yourself. Once you are aware of how much emotional energy is wasted on these thoughts – you will realize that the Start Over practice can change your life. It is worth the effort you need to put in.
Changes: choose some aspects of your life you wish to change and start practicing. Each time you discover you got lost just tell yourself: “Yes, I’m lost! And now I “Start Over”. Practice strengthens you, reminds you of your goals and helps you let go of negative emotions and focus on the present. Don’t be disappointed if at first you don’t succeed, after all you are creating a new automatic response.
Meditation: practice Start Over meditation. It doesn’t matter where your thoughts travel – just keep returning to focus on your breathing. Don’t judge yourself. Don’t think: Am I practicing this meditation as I should? Think: how well I practice Start Over. J
“No is a word on your path to Yes. Don’t give up too soon. Not even if well-meaning parents, relatives, friends, and colleagues tell you to get a real job. Your dreams are your real job”
— Joyce Spizer Author
“Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success. They quit on the one-yard line. They give up a the last minute of the game, one foot from a winning touchdown.”
“Adhere to your purpose and you will soon feel as well as you ever did. On the contrary, if you falter, and give up, you will lose the power of keeping any resolution, and will regret it all your life.”
